“△” was born from the inspiration of the works and architecture of the Chichu Art Museum. There are no clear answers here. There are as many results as there are people. Even for the same form, there will be changes in not only how you feel because of your emotions on that day and the light that shines in but even how you view the space. This is both an object and a device that evokes once again the experience of the Chichu Art Museum.
— from the beginning of the brochure

Situated on Naoshima Island in Japan’s Seto Inland Sea, the Chichu Art Museum, operated by the Fukutake Foundation, commissioned a special edition of Newtons for exclusive release at its museum shop.

This special version, named “△”, includes two spheres crafted with precision using Shizuoka Hikimono, a traditional Japanese turnery technique. Magnets embedded within the wooden forms interact through a precisely balanced magnetic force, allowing for refined and subtle spatial compositions. The larger hollow sphere contains two magnets—one fixed, one movable—offering greater flexibility in arrangement.

The iron base, inspired by the museum’s iconic triangular corridor, is finished with the same treatment as the architectural elements such as doors and handrails. Through the careful combination of wood and steel, the piece invites quiet engagement with notions of balance, materiality, and space.

Released in March 2025, this special edition is available exclusively at the Chichu Art Museum Shop.
